2 Teams With 7 Players On Each Team 

Goal Shooter - To score goals and to work in and around the circle with the GA

Goal Attack - To feed and work with GS and to score goals

Wing Attack - To feed the circle players giving them shooting opportunities

Centre - To take the centre pass and to link the defence and the attack

Wing Defence - To look for interceptions and prevent the WA from feeding the circle

Goal Defence - To win the ball and reduce the effectiveness of the GA

Goal Keeper - To work with the GD and to prevent the GA/GS from scoring goals

The Netball Keywords

Passing
Chest pass, bounce pass, over head pass, and shoulder pass. Bouncing the ball is not permitted in netball.

Shooting 
Only Goal Attack and Goal Shooter can score in netball within the semi circle areas on court.

Pivot
A swivel movement keeping one foot on the ground and turning on it to face a different direction.

Marking
You are allowed to mark your opponent, but you must be 1m away at all times.

Dodging 
Moving from side to side to confuse the opponent before sprinting off to catch the ball.

Footwork Rule 
You cannot hold the ball for over three seconds, and you cannot move with it.

Landing Foot 
Your landing foot is the first foot to touch the ground after catching the ball.

Fun Netball Facts

The Chelsea College of Education in Eastbourne hosted the first netball tournament in 1963. Australia was the tournament champion, New Zealand finished in second place, with England third. 


Netball became part of the Commonwealth Games programme in 1998 although it is not played at the Olympics.
